#1 – Cover the Pool with the Right Materials

One of the first things that the homeowner should do when making winterization preparations is to cover the pool with the appropriate materials. By covering the above ground pool, the owners can avoid seeing a lot of floating leaves and other debris. Floating leaves normally comes from the trees shedding during the fall season so it is essential for the owners to know when it is time to protect it from the changes in the weather. If the owner does not take this precautions, they will find that these are unnecessary problems that causes extra hassles for everyone involved.

Additionally, the homeowners will also need to protect the pool from ice and snow. This part of the winterization process includes purchasing an air pillow. Air pillows are used to keep ice and snow from beginning to accumulate during the winter months. Which means, this part of the process is not a luxury but a necessity.

#2 – Remove Swimming Pool Equipment and Accessories

Another tasks that should be done is the removal of swimming pool equipment and accessories. Some of the more common items involves removing ladders, solar blankets, skimmer baskets, along with any wall fittings from the pool area so that they can be safely stored away until the pool is opened back up again. It is also important for pool owners to know how they should clean the hoses since they may crack easily if they are wrapped too tightly before being secured.

#3 – Drain the Water Out of the Above Ground Pool

Homeowners should also drain all of the water out of the pool or they may choose to have a professional company to take care of these needs. In either case, whoever is responsible will need to open the pump, filter, drain plugs, chlorinator and the heater so that it can be drain completely. Owners should not neglect this part of the process since it will prevent the associated fixtures and accessories from freezing and cracking.

#4 – Clean the Pool

Once the water has been drain completely out, the next thing the homeowner and their family should do is to clean the pool thoroughly. After this task has been done, the pool can be covered.
